G.K. Chadha, Professor Emeritus at Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, is the President of South Asian University recently started in New Delhi under the auspices of the 8 SAARC Countries. During 2004-09, he was a Member of the Prime Minister’s Economic Advisory Council, in the rank of a Minister of State.
Backed by an exceptionally brilliant academic record, Prof. Chadha has been engaged in teaching and research in economics for more than 40 years now. He has written 16 books and 99 research papers in national and international research journals on various development issues relating to India and other developing countries of Asia, notably Indonesia and China. He was a Visiting Fellow at Institute of Development Studies, Sussex, England, Institute of Developing Economies, Tokyo, and a Visiting Professor at University of Mauritius. He is currently an Honorary Professor at Shenzhen University, China and Nihon Fukushi University, Nagoya-Japan besides being a Consultant to several international educational institutions and development organizations.
He has been honored with numerous awards and distinctions for his contribution in the field of education, the latest being the D.Litt Degree (honoris causa) conferred by Panjab, Pondicherry and Mysore Universities. He is a member of academic and executive council of many universities and research institutes in India and abroad.
He has been the President of the Indian Economic Association, Indian Society of Agricultural Economics, Indian Society of Labour Economics, Indian Society of Agricultural Marketing, besides being adviser to numerous educational institutions and government departments, at national and state levels.
