On May 12 and 13, 2014 WIEB will host the 2014 Dialogue of Confucian Entrepreneurs

May 12th (Monday): Day of Lectures

Topic: The Role Model of Confucian Entrepreneurs and East Asian Civilizations

Summary: “Confucian Entrepreneurs” not only emerge from the traditions of East Asian businessmen, but also encompass local knowledge that have modern and global significance. Relying on scholarly analysis of historical Confucian Entrepreneur paragons, combined with contemporary entrepreneurs who embody Confucian qualities, we hope help shift society towards the Confucian Entrepreneurial approach. With this model we can address the issues that all people face in the age of globalization by enriching our spiritual, moral, ethical, organizational resources.
This Confucian Entrepreneur Dialogue emphasizes cross-cultural and interdisciplinary investigations that combine the resources of East and West, ancient times and modernity to collectively discuss individuals of the business world who carry the spirit of humanism.

Time: 9:30AM-12:00PM; 2:00PM-5:30PM

Location: Moonlight Hall, Yingjie Centre, PKU

May 13th (Tuesday): Day of Dialogues

Topic: Wealth and Life

Summary: Confucianism possesses a broad understanding of wealth (“What gathers humans together? It is called wealth.” The Book of Changes) that can shatter the narrow-minded focus on individual wealth and material wealth.  It also presents a unique approach to dealing with wealth (“The Benevolent cultivate selves through wealth.” The Great Learning) where wealth is infused into the concept of the self cultivation as it is a major asset that enables us to realize ourselves through embodiment in the process of family harmony, governance of state, peace under heaven. These two basic perspectives are the keys to create characters of the East Asian entrepreneurs. In recent years, people have upheld a wide variety of philosophies of wealth. These generally emerge from the influence of the economic views of the European Enlightenment, and the popularity of pluralistic cultures.
This Confucian Entrepreneur Dialogue intends to engage with “wealth” from the many perspectives like religion, economics, business management, and philanthropy in the hopes of presenting a comprehensive view.
